Skin needling involves the use of a skin roller spiked with 2-3 mm needles. This is passed over acne scar areas, breaking up fibrous scars in the process. Over time, collagen is remodeled. This procedure can improve mild to moderate acne scars, however with new Fractional lasers, skin needling is being replaced by Acne Scar specialists. Fractional lasers provide greater accuracy and better results as lasers penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin more readily than needling. Skin needling (some Cosmetic Clinics call this Fractional Resurfacing) is not laser, and is largely of historical value.
